Who will step up for the Sixers in Joel Embiid’s Absence?

Joel Embiid, the Sixers best player and league leading scorer went down in game 6 versus the Toronto Raptors. The Sixers would go on to win the series shortly after, but there was a big question whether Joel would be able to play the next series. Embiid was diagnosed with a right orbital fracture which is essentially a broken face. He was also diagnosed with a mild concussion. This leaves a huge whole for the Sixers to fill, Joel is the heart and soul of the team. Luckily for the Sixers they have a former MVP on the team, as well as a team full of players ready to prove themselves. Next, I will discuss who I believe will be the key players if the Sixers are to succeed without Embiid.

James Harden

Harden is having what is considered a down year for him, averaging 22.5 points a game in the regular season and even less in the playoffs. For the Sixers to continue to win in the playoffs they are going to need to get more out of him, especially with Embiid out he is currently our best player. James must improve his scoring efforts as he will more than likely get the ball in his hands more with Embiid out. I think if the Sixers are to win, they will need Harden to at least average 30 points a game.

Tyrese Maxey

Maxey has only gotten better since he has entered the league, and this season he has really took off. Maxey averaged 17.5 points in the season but is currently averaging 21points in the playoffs. He has had a couple of stellar performances in the playoffs already, but in order for the Sixers to succeed they will need him to also average 30 points a game.

In conclusion the Sixers are going to need a lot of help with Joel Embiid out. It is possible though as they do have the personnel that are capable of it.
